Why You’re Not Too Young for a Will

Unless you want to be remembered by loved ones as “that guy who screwed us over,” it's time to address your inevitable demise.”I think everyone who's 18 or older should have a will,” says Michael J. Hussey, J.D., an associate professor of law at Widener University. Each state has its own rules about how to give away your stuff. That means if you‘re single and die without a will, state administrators may liquidate your assets–the flat-screen TV, car, checking account–and misallocate them. (“Sure, let's give it all to that older brother with a gambling problem, not his niece who needs help with college tuition.”)(Related: Will You Live to 100?)Besides, the best time to draw up a will

Eye of the Storm

Sparring is one of the scariest things you can do. The 2015 Men’s Health Staff Challenge came to a close last week. That means the fitness test is over, and a lot of the guys around the office are breathing easier, walking easier, now that they’ve done their time and put a few personal bests to bed. For me, a new challenge is coming: Professional Services Fight Night is a month away. Anyone who’s ever been ring-side knows, this is not like any fitness test. The guys in the MH office are taking it easy, but I’m busier than ever. Five weeks out from Fight Night, Clever’s voice has ingrained itself in my head. Everywhere I go, I hear his voice, going

6 Things to Say During ‘The Talk’

In addition to being a civil rights activist, curator of an amateur porn film festival, and sex advice columnist/podcaster, Dan Savage is a dad. Like many fathers, he navigated his way through “the talk” while sitting opposite a silent, stone-faced, mortified child.”I told my kid, ‘We're going to talk about these things and if you argue or insist you already know them, this conversation will be much longer,'” recalls Savage.Parents dread this moment for its potential for miscommunication and awkwardness, and Savage discovered that 20 years of answering strangers' inquiries about threesomes and rope play didn't make it any easier to impart the basics on D.J., the son Savage and his husband Terry Miller are raising in their home

Are Cigars a Safe Substitute for Cigarettes?

Lighting up a Cuban could be more lethal than you think: Cigar smokers are at risk of dying from many of the same diseases that affect people who puff on cigarettes, suggests research recently published in BMC Public Health. The researchers reviewed 22 studies on cigar smoking and mortality, and found that people who smoked only cigars–no other tobacco product–were more likely to die prematurely of any cause than nonsmokers were. Even those who reported they didn't inhale the cigar smoke still experienced an increased risk of death caused by oral, laryngeal, and esophageal cancer. You might fire up a celebratory stogie on special occasions and think it's relatively safe–compared to cigarettes, at least–but “research has shown that whether cigar smokers realize

Lab Grown Sperm: Fact or Fiction?

Is this a human sperm? This work was retracted from publication in 2009, never to be seen again. Did it really happen? Did a company in Lyon, France actually make human sperm in a dish, as touted in a press release? Or will our hopes be dashed as before? Your guess is as good as mine. A Symphony of Biology Compare spermatogenesis to a symphony score, but a masterful one, like a work of Beethoven or Sibelius. Exquisitely orchestrated, with complex movements performed by a sea of instrumentalists. And the harmonic result? A fully formed sperm. The press release announcing the feat was disappointingly bereft of details. Were all the score’s movements included? Were all of the instrumentalists there? Were the instruments in tune? How did the piece

How to Help Her Get Ready so You Aren’t Always Late

She takes forever to get ready, and we're always late. What's my move?–Joe, Santa Fe, NM Plan ahead. Tell her the night before (casually) how much you love her black strapless dress and those smokin' hot purple shoes. You'll take the pressure off any last-minute decision making. If she's still tardy, you can always try nudging her with an excuse to leave the house early (“Let's grab a drink beforehand”) that you can easily blow off if you're about to miss your reservation. I'll just say it: I'm on Tinder because I want sex. But should I ever admit that to my dates?–Justin, Springfield, MA Well, not exactly. Just because she happens to be on Tinder

This Man Is Running 50 Ironmans. In 50 States. In 50 Days!

James Lawrence holds the world record for most Ironman races completed in one year, at 30. It's a bonkers achievement–and he intends to shatter it this summer. Dubbed the “Iron Cowboy” thanks to his penchant for running the 26.2-mile portion of the Ironman (which also includes a 2.4-mile swim and a 112-mile bike) in a cowboy hat, Lawrence has another epic undertaking up his sleeve. His goal: to complete 50 Ironman races . . . in 50 states . . . in 50 days. Technically, the 38-year-old triathlon coach and personal trainer won't go down in history for the feat, because the 50 races are unofficial. Lawrence and his family plotted the courses. “Logistically, we had to figure out how to physically get ready for this,” he says. “And then we had to
