Rise and shine! My goal for the next few weeks – get into the habit of going to bed early! The Husband and I have made pinky swear promises to be in bed by 9:30. I have realized that it takes me a good 30 minutes to get into bed once I decide to go to bed… So part of this promise is closing my book/shutting off the TV at 9:00. It’s challenging – even though I’m always exhausted by bedtime, I *want* to hang out and get my adult time, you know? We had a fun day outside yesterday. On the days that Kristien starts work late, we usually go on a big family walk after breakfast, which is so nice. We try to do a 2.2 mile loop.

My child plays no sports.
band geek FTW!! I am definitely not a sportswoman. I was born before the push for girls in sports. I claim (I think I read it somewhere?) it’s all because when there’s dyslexia in a family the non-dyslexic sibling will have poor athletic prowess. The bottom line is I’m not traditionally athletic. I’ve discovered through trial & error, however, I enjoy moving my body and lifting heavy things/setting em back down. Most days the “heavy thing” I end up lifting is my body and I’m more than content with this fact. I think that was the reason I never thought much about the Child and sports when she was little. I encouraged her to play. I provided her
Join In launch ‘Run It’ campaign to grow community running
Join In launches ‘Run It’, a new campaign to get more volunteers involved in community sport and boost participation in running. Running is the fastest-growing participation sport in the UK and volunteers are the backbone. From informal running groups, athletics teams and marathons; running depends on thousands of people helping out. London 2012 legacy charity Join In already has over 4,000 volunteer opportunities at running clubs and events that need filling, and there are roles for everyone: run group leaders and club coaches through to event marshals and supporters at your local fun run. And they don’t just need help trackside, you can help with social media, paint the clubhouse or collect members’ subs – the options are endless. Nail Every Goal You Set: The Best Advice You’ve Probably Never Heard
Whatever your fitness or performance goal—lose weight, build strength, run a faster 5K, you name it—establishing the right environment for yourself is the foundation for your sustainable success. It’s so easy to fall prey to the idea that every goal has a simple, linear solution: “Losing weight equals moving more and eating less;” “toning up means lighter weights for more reps;” “running faster equates to including intervals.” While there is some truth to these approaches, they’re only part of the puzzle. The Big Four The first step on any fitness journey is to step back and consider the bigger picture of your environment. Your environment—all the facets of your life that impact your ability to achieve and sustain your goals and to live the
Tried and tested: Cafe Du Cycliste Fleurette jersey
It’s not so long ago that cycling gear was either very logo heavy (think team jersey’s) or just very dull, and it certainly wasn’t cool. Now there are fab brands popping up all over the place and there is actually CHOICE, which for female cyclists is pretty much unheard of. I’ve long been a fan of Cafe Du Cycliste, the French brand giving Rapha a run for their money in the style stakes, so when they offered the Fleurette top to test I jumped at the chance. (Note: The top is black, as shown in the last image in the gallery, not brown as it looks in these images taken on a sunny day) Click on the images below for a picture-by-
Dear Mark: Your Milk Questions Answered
For today’s Dear Mark, I’m responding to as many of the questions and concerns relayed in the comment section of last week’s raw milk post. You guys had a lot of them, ranging from whether raw milk can help with eczema and adult asthma, if homogenization is dangerous, why raw milk might taste and smell fishy, to how many people get sick from pasteurized milk. I also respond to reports of raw milk not being a panacea for immune health, and even an active impediment to it. Lots of ground is covered today, so let’s get right to it. Here we go: Is homogenization dangerous? The initial hypothesis posited by Dr. Kurt Oster was that homogenization unleashes for full absorption an atherosclerotic enzyme
All the Good Eats
Happy Memorial Day! Did you have a nice weekend? We had a great one! We spent a lot of time outside… and a lot of time inside because we painted our master bedroom! Some more on that tomorrow, though. Stupid = me feeding Claire in a walker. I swear, just last week, I could ‘park’ this in front of an object like a chair and she wouldn’t move. But she’s figured out how to navigate better; hence the food all over the place. Thank goodness for Maggie and her bottomless appetite… And I’m on my way to buy the IKEA high chair (by your popular vote) this week! I’ve had a few requests to post more meal ideas, so I grabbed my camera this weekend and tried

Today is about changing perspective.
Sure, if you reside in the USA it’s also Memorial Day, but I’m seizing today to shift some thoughts which no longer serve me. I’m taking today (to pause and remember those who have died in service of our country and) to make time for something I’d professed to be too busy for and which I need to make a priority. Today is about changing perspective literally in hopes it changes my perspective metaphorically. It’s as the inimitable Wayne Dyer says: If we shift/tweak the way we view things in our lives, the things we are viewing change.
