Strava, the global community for athletes, has released details on London’s Top Stops for cyclists, including cafes and bike shops. The stops are based on data from over 10.1 million London-based Strava activities, giving unprecedented insight into the habits of the city’s cyclists.
In compiling the Top Stops for Strava Local in London, the stopping habits of the city’s cyclists were analysed to find out how long they stop for and their favourite locations to meet for a ride or grab a coffee. This has thrown up some interesting findings on the habits of athletes in London.
On average, 78,000 rides are recorded in London each week, clocking up over 1.7 million kilometres. The data shows that on average cyclists take a coffee break after 90 minutes of riding, stopping for only 16 minutes, which is inline with the global average.
The #1 Top Stop in London, Roehampton Gate Café, is also the most-stopped at location in the world on Strava, located on the corner of Richmond Park, a well-known meeting point for cyclists. In London, The National Trust café located at the top of Box Hill followed closely in second, with Peaslake Stores also based out in the Surrey Hills, placing third. South-East London based bike shop Cadence is placed highest among bike shops, with Esher-based G!RO Café making the top five as well.

The information coincides with the launch of Strava Local – a new data-powered, athlete-curated city guide for runners and cyclists, which is now live for 12 global cities, including London, Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam and New York. Over 38 million Strava activities from these 12 cities were analysed to create the guides.
The guide also includes Strava’s best Local Routes, which are available for both cycling and running. Created by analysing millions of clusters of uploaded data, Strava then worked with local influencers to fine-tune the information and produce the city’s top riding and running experiences across the whole of London.
“The Top Routes span the whole of London and include a range of distances,” says Simon Klima, Strava’s UK Country Manager. “They are perfect for those exploring London as a tourist or Londoners looking to discover new running or cycling routes.”
Strava Local is now live for Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Denver, London, Melbourne, Milan, New York, San Francisco, Sao Paulo and Sydney. Optimised for viewing on mobile devices, athletes can access Strava Local online and select top routes to follow with Strava on the road or trail. Strava Local can be found at
